UBC IT recently upgraded its wireless networks in order to improve performance and resiliency. As a result of these changes a small number of people using computers running older versions of MacOS, Windows, and iOS have been impacted.
You are affected by these changes if you are using one of the following:
- Mac OS version 10.7.5 (Lion) or older
- iOS – version 5.1.1 or older
- Windows – running wireless drivers from around 2012 or earlier
If any of the above apply to you, click the appropriate link for more information on how you can update your computer to resolve the wireless connection issue.
If none of the above apply to you, click here.
Mac OS 10.7.5 (Lion) or older
- As individual drivers are not available in Mac OS we can only recommend upgrading to the latest version of the Mac OS operating system through the Mac App Store. Visit http://www.apple.com/ca/osx/how-to-upgrade/ for details.
iOS 5.1.1 or older
- We recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of iOS through iTunes. Visit https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204204 for details.
Windows computer running drivers from around 2012 or earlier
- Windows computers running older drivers may be incompatible with newer network hardware and software.
- To check if you’re affected, you can follow the steps in our KB article:
- If you are unable to connect to the wireless network, we recommend upgrading to the latest driver. Microsoft provides general instructions on how to do this at https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/15048/windows-7-update-driver-hardware-not-working-properly
- Note that on older machines, you will quite often need to follow the steps in the section titled To download and update a driver yourself in order to find a suitable update
Unaffected devices
- If your computer is not running one of the Operating System/driver versions listed above, try visiting UBC AutoConnect to reset all of your settings. In many cases, this will fix your wireless connection issue!
