FASmail: How to setup FASmail on an Android device using Activesync

This document explains how to configure an Android device with your with your UBC FASmail account to access your calendar, contacts and mail.

These instructions are based on Android version 10. Specific instructions may vary depending on the phone and operating system version. 


Important notes

  • UBC IT does not provide support for Android device setup/installation. This document is provided as a general reference only.
  • FASmail will enforce the Securing Computing and Mobile Storage Devices/Media Standard for information security. Specifically, FASmail requires that mobile devices must be:
    • Protected with a password of at least five characters, unless limited by the device OS
    • Configured to lock the screen automatically, after no more than 30 minutes of inactivity, with password protection
    • Encrypted via device level encryption
    • Configured such that they can be remotely wiped in the event of loss or theft
    • If a remote wipe is initiated, it cannot be cancelled and will persist even if the account is re-added. The device must be removed in OWA after the wipe has been performed before attempting a new setup

Important Please do not proceed with these setup instructions unless you are able to commit the new required 8-character/digit passcode to memory.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to Accounts
  3. Click on Add Account
  4. Select Exchange
  5. Enter your email address 
  6. Click on Set up manually 
  7. The next page will ask for the following information:
    1. In the Password field, type in your CWL password 
    2. In the Domain\Username field, type in EAD\yourcwlusername
    3. In the Server field, type in activesync.mail.ubc.ca
  8. If you do not already have a passcode set on your phone, or if your passcode is not at least 8 digits long, you will be prompted to set one up
    1. Click on Change screen lock to continue with setting up a passcode for your phone (required) 

  9. After the information is entered and the passcode requirement is met, setup is complete and your Android device is now configured for use with UBC FASmail
