Keeping up with technology with Windows 7 Upgrade

The technology landscape is constantly changing and products are upgraded as new innovations are discovered. Hence, keeping up with the latest version of technology and preparing for change can be challenging. Until recently, some of the computers at UBC libraries for students and staff were still operating Windows XP. Today, all workstations have been updated to Windows 7, with the exception of a couple that were out of scope from the project.

Working closely together, UBC IT and UBC Library focused on keeping disruptions for staff and students as minimal as possible. The team was cautious and meticulous on implementing any changes during work hours and they ensured that some workstations were still available for students to use while they perform upgrades at other workstations. In addition to operating system upgrade, staff computers were implemented with Enterprise Active Directory (EAD), enhancing their efficiency and administration of university-wide services.
