ARC launches Sockeye, a new advanced research computing infrastructure

ARC’s new advanced research computing infrastructure, Sockeye, is now available to UBC researchers across all disciplines.  Sockeye will significantly increase UBC’s computing and storage capacity and supplement the national platform for digital research infrastructure.

Sockeye offers a high-performance computing platform that features over 7,000 CPU cores and 10 petabytes of storage capacity, as well as improved access to local advanced research computing resources and security for those that work with sensitive or confidential data.

This new infrastructure is the result of a $7.9m capital investment made by the university in 2018 to support UBC’s strategic plan, specifically Research Excellence Strategy 7: Research Support.

A series of Information sessions will be hosted at UBC Vancouver and Okanagan campuses for researchers that would like to learn more about the application process to request for allocation on the Sockeye platform, in addition to one-on-one consultations to provide further assistance and support.
