Restriction of Microsoft 365 Office Add-In Store Access August 21, 2025 16:00 - 17:00 PT

August 21, 2025

THIS IS A SCHEDULED EVENT Aug 21, 16:00 - 17:00 PDT

Aug 12, 14:25 PDT
Scheduled - As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding university data and strengthening our IT security practices, UBC will be reverting access to the Microsoft 365 Add-In Store to its previously restricted state on August 21, 2025 16:00 - 17:00 PT.

This change affects Word, Excel, and PowerPoint web add-ins [not COM add-ins] that users may have been able to install directly from the Microsoft Office Add-In Store. These add-ins must go through an Security and Privacy Impact Assessment as they potentially introduce privacy, security and compliance risks to the University.

Impacts will include loss of access to the Office Add-in Store and use of installed web add-ins. Legacy COM add-ins are unaffected by this change. A process will be established to expedite requests - priority will be given to requests where lack of access represents a business-critical interruption.
