Emerging Media Lab’s 2018 Showcase

Want to know what sort of projects have been brewing in the Emerging Media Lab this past year? Join us on August 29 for our 2018 Showcase! Students will be discussing emerging technologies and tools and demonstrating the following projects:

For the past two years, the Emerging Media Lab has been an incubator of innovative AR/VR projects that impact the teaching and learning landscape at UBC. Projects such as the HoloBrain and Geography VR have been set as examples of revolutionizing the traditional classroom set-up.

“Working on the Journey with Me project has been an eye-opening experience. We developed a mobile app that allows students to walk with and listen to Syrian refugees as they describe their homes in Syria, their journey from home to Canada and their present lives here in Vancouver, says Sabrina Ge, a fourth year Integrated Science Student, and Project Co-Lead of the Journey with Me project. “It's a fantastic way to help students empathize with Syrian refugees through experiential learning.”

If you are a student looking for volunteering opportunities, the EML is recruiting student help for their ongoing and upcoming projects. To find out what the opportunities are, ask one of the student workers or volunteers at the event!
