You Have Mail

Emails and instant messaging are popular choices of communication methods that we use to contact one another. Hence, it’s not much of a surprise that cybercriminals commonly attack using these two channels of communications. Government/public sector is known to be the most targeted industry for email attacks. You may receive links or emails from a cybercriminal pretending to be someone that you know. It is important that we recognize when an email or an instant message is sent by a cybercriminal.

Learn about the three common email attacks - phishing, spear phishing, and scams and find out what steps to take to protect yourself; educate yourself by logging into www.vista.ubc.ca and watch the 6:52 min video on Emails and Instant Messaging in the Information Security Awareness Course that is available to all staff, faculty, and graduate students.
