Additional PCI Security Requirements

As of September 17, 2014 messages that are received or sent via UBC email will be flagged if they contain credit card information. The email will still be sent to the intended recipient, however in the future this type of email may be blocked.

UBC is required to flag all emails that contain credit card information due to UBC's Information Security Standards. Due to the sensitivity of Payment Card Industry (PCI) Information, UBC is subject to the following additional requirements:

  • PCI Information must never be transmitted via email or instant messaging systems.
  • PCI Information must never be transmitted unencrypted by any of the other above methods;
  • Media must be sent by secured courier or other delivery method that can be accurately tracked; and
  • Management must approve all media that is transmitted or moved from a secured area
