January 28 is Data Privacy Day

January 25, 2019

Data Privacy Day on January 28 is an annual and worldwide effort to empower people to protect their privacy and to focus on the shared responsibility of protecting privacy and data. As an official 2019 Data Privacy Day champion, UBC is spreading the word with tips and resources on how to protect and safeguard information security throughout this week.

Data Privacy Day is an international effort that began in the United States and Canada in January 2008 as an extension of the Data Protection Day celebration in Europe. Data Protection Day commemorates the January 28, 1981 signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. The Data Privacy Day campaign is officially led by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA).
