Email Protection and Security

The UBC Mail-Relays provide free virus and spam scanning for departmental mail services - reducing inbound spam and viruses for your subscribers. Departments already running a mail gateway can reduce the load on their systems by having the mail-relays perform virus and spam scanning first.

If you are a FASmail subscriber, your email is already being filtered by the mail-relays. Discover how to filter spam out of your inbox. Faculty and staff in departments running their own mail service can use the mail-relays for spam and virus scanning.

To improve visibility into the messages that have been filtered and quarantined by the mail-relays, the UBC IT Communication and Collaboration Services and Cybersecurity teams have developed the Mail Sentry Service.  Mail Sentry allows subscribers to log in and view quarantined messages, as well as set up email notifications for when messages are caught.
