Subdomain Registration

Overview

Domain names identify a realm of administrative authority on the Internet and follow the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS). Domain names are organized in a hierarchy of levels. Well known top level domains (TLDs) are .com, .ca, .org, .net. Below these domains are second-level and third-level domains that are open to anyone desiring a public presence on the Internet. UBC manages domain registration for all subdomains falling under ubc.ca. Any departments, faculties, and UBC-affiliated organizations requiring a public presence on the Internet may apply to UBC for a third-level subdomain in order to be registered under ubc.ca.
