UBC Visitor Wireless Network Login Process to Change for Enhanced Security

April 23, 2024

Update: April 26, 2024: This change is currently under review. As a result, the previously advertised date of May 8, 2024, for this change has been postponed to review options that will serve the needs of all areas of UBC while increasing the safety and security of our wireless services. This web page will be updated when more information is available and will be accompanied by communications via multiple channels.

On May 8, 2024, UBC is implementing an improved login process for the university's visitor wireless network, "ubcvisitor". This change aims to strengthen network security and provide better data for managing the service.

What's changing?

Previously, visitors connecting to "ubcvisitor" only needed to accept the Terms of Service to gain internet access. Under the new process, after accepting the Terms of Service, visitors will be required to:

  • Enter a valid email address
  • Validate their connection request through a link sent to the provided email address

Upon successful validation, users will be connected to the "ubcvisitor" network for a period of 48 hours.

Important reminder

The "ubcvisitor" network is intended for visitors to the university community. UBC students, faculty, and staff should use the dedicated "ubcsecure", "eduroam", or "ubcprivate" wireless networks for their internet needs. Attempting to connect to "ubcvisitor" with an email address ending in "@ubc.ca" will result in an error message.

For more information visit the ubcvisitor Wireless Network page.
