UBC Emeriti Email Transition

  • Meeting Location A line styled icon from Orion Icon Library. Project Phase: Current

As part of UBC’s upcoming transition to the cloud-based Microsoft 365 (M365) platform, all Emeriti email accounts will be moved to Exchange Online. To prepare for this change, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will soon be required to access your UBC email.

What is changing?

On August 19, 2025, all UBC Emeriti email accounts currently hosted on the on-premises FASmail system will be migrated to Microsoft Exchange Online, part of UBC's Microsoft 365 environment.

To support this change, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using Cisco Duo will be required for all Emeriti accessing their UBC email accounts, beginning July 7, 2025.

Why is this change happening?

UBC is retiring its legacy email infrastructure to:

  • Improve security through mandatory MFA
  • Modernize and streamline email access using Microsoft 365
  • Align Emeriti email accounts with the rest of the UBC community (faculty, staff, students)
  • Enable easier access to email from anywhere in the world

These changes are essential to protect the academic and personal data associated with all CWL accounts and to maintain eligibility for Microsoft licensing.

Key Dates
