Dialing Instructions

  • To dial off-campus, dial 9 + ten digit number
  • To dial within campus, dial last 5 numbers
  • To dial long distance without using an authorization code:
    • within North America, dial 8 + 1 + Area Code + number
    • for international calls, dial 8 + 011 + Country Code + City Code + number

Dialing Plan

This plan has been made to assist you in making local and long distance calls. There is also information on obtaining directory assistance and reporting equipment problems.

International Directory

  • Dial 8 + 011 + 555 1212

This service is available only from a toll-allowed phone or with an authorization code.

With authorization code: Dial *55 + Authorization Code + 8 + 011 + 555 1212.

The charge per call for this service is $3.00 plus tax.

Directory Assistance for BC

  • Dial 8 + 1 + 411
  • With authorization code: *55 + authorization code + 8 + 1 + 411.

These services are available only from a toll-allowed phone or with an authorization code. The charge per call for this service is $0.95 plus tax.

Directory Assistance Outside BC, within North America

  • Dial 8 + 1 + Area Code + 555 1212

Calling Features

Call Waiting

Call Waiting allows you to answer an incoming call while you are already on the line. A soft beep will alert you to a second incoming call. Another reminder will be heard 10 seconds later if the waiting call remains unanswered.

How Call Waiting Works

To answer the waiting call and hold the original party:

  • Press the receiver (link, flash, or hang-up button) for one second to place the original caller on hold and connect to the second caller

To alternate between callers, press the receiver button.

To answer the waiting call and disconnect the original caller:

  • Hang up
  • Your phone will ring and when answered will connect you with the waiting caller

To temporarily remove call waiting:

  • Press #70, wait for a dial tone and then dial the number as usual - This only works for individual calls. Call waiting will be restored when the call is terminated.

Call Forward

Call Forward allows you to forward your calls to any number in the local calling area. This service can be turned on and off.

  • While your phone is in Call Forward, some features will be temporarily suspended (eg, Call Waiting)
  • Outgoing calls can be placed when Call Forwarding is activated

How Call Forward Works

Activation:
  • Lift handset and listen for dial tone
  • Press # 1
  • You will hear an interrupted dial tone
  • Enter the number where you want your calls forwarded
  • If the number is off campus, enter 9 + area code + number
Deactivation:
  • Lift handset and listen for dial tone
  • Press # 1
  • A regular dial tone indicates that Call Forwarding has been de-activated

Three-Way Calling

Three-Way Calling allows you to talk to two people in different places at the same time.

  • If either of the parties hang up, you may continue with the remaining party - When you hang up, all parties will be disconnected
  • The initiator of a three-way call will be billed for all applicable long distance charges

How Three-Way Calling Works

To add a third person to your call:
  • Ask the first caller to hold
  • Press the receiver button for 1 second
  • Listen for 3 quick beeps and dial tone
  • Dial the number of the third person
  • When the third person answers, you may talk privately with them before making the call three-way

To establish your three-way connection, press the flash or hang-up button.If the third person's number is busy or not answered, press the receiver button to return to the person on hold.

To Deactivate Three-Way Calling:
  • Hang up

Other Services

*67 - Used to block your number when calling out. Your name and number will be shown as "private". This only works for individual calls.

*69 - Does not work with the ResTel system because we are unable to track the "trunk" from which the call is originating.

*57 - Does not work with the ResTel system because we are unable to track the "trunk" from which the call is originating.
