UBC IT has confirmed demand (see Survey and Focus Groups Feedback Summary) for an enterprise-class cloud-based file sharing service capable of supporting both internal and external users while still complying with Canadian, provincial and UBC data security requirements. UBC employees already use a number of disparate on-premises and cloud-based file sharing services – none of which entirely meet constituent requirements and some of which violate those data security protocols.
Purpose
The purpose of this project is to develop a simple, secure, and easy to use file sharing service, hosted within UBC that enables users to share documents with internal and external users.
A pilot program is in place for UBC Workspace to assist with a full-fledged deployment planned for early 2014. The pilot is a critical next step towards building user acceptance prior to the full service rollout.
Goals
- Develop a UBC hosted file sharing service with the ability to share files externally
- Ensure service meets UBC Policy and BC legislative requirements
- Offer file synchronization
