myDNS is an IP Address Management (IPAM) platform for the UBC IP infrastructure, including DNS and DHCP services. Management of UBC domain names and IP addresses is available to registered UBC network administrators.

UBCNET and Network Connectivity

Overview

UBC Net is the standard UBC network on campus.  Such data networks have become critical to the daily operation of all UBC departments and faculties. It is important to have a network that properly meets your department or faculties’ needs whether that means added security, increased speed, or being cost effective. UBC IT can help design your departmental LAN.

Teleconferencing

Overview

UBC IT provides conferencing services for audio and web-based collaboration through TELUS. The conference bridge allows subscribers to:

  • Create large ad-hoc or operator attended conferences
  • Share documents and other materials online

Access to the TELUS conferencing bridge is available through local and international toll-free numbers.

  • Contact your Departmental Voice Administrator to request a TELUS teleconferencing account. It can take up to 48 hours for your account to be provisioned.

Wireless Access Point Installation

Overview

The University of British Columbia has one of the most advanced wireless IT networks in North America.  We strive to have 100% wireless coverage inside of campus buildings and are also working on adding expanded outdoor coverage.  There are over 14,000 wireless access points at UBC.

UBC IT can add additional wireless access points to areas not currently covered or to areas that need additional wireless coverage.  Please contact us for a price estimate and to answer any of your questions.

Network Installation

Overview

The University of British Columbia has one of the most advanced IT networks in North America. There are more than 100,000 data ports at over 400 buildings at UBC. The majority of building data ports are linked at speeds of up to 1,000Mbps and most buildings are linked at speeds of up to 10Gbps. A number of buildings are currently being upgraded to 40Gbps links to the overall campus network.

Internet Access Ports

Overview

Internet Access Ports (IAP) allow laptop users to obtain a wired connection to the internet on campus. Most data ports located in public spaces are Internet Access Ports. When you access a browser after connecting to an IAP, you will be prompted to enter your CWL.

Data/TV Port Activation

Overview

If there is existing data cabling on an existing IT outlet, UBC IT can connect up a data port to the UBC campus data network. Similarly, if there is existing coax cabling on an existing IT outlet, UBC IT can connect up a TV port to the UBC campus CATV network. Cost and effort required to make these connections is different in almost any situation so please contact us for more information.

UBC/Shaw Cable TV

Overview

UBC Information Technology, in partnership with Rogers Cable, offers cable television in some student residences and many administrative buildings on campus. 

Students, faculty, and residents have the option of subscribing to Rogers Cable services, including HDTV, Pay Per View, and Video on Demand. 

To access UBC/Rogers digital cable TV services, a Rogers digital terminal is required.
