Shared Web Hosting

Overview

The shared web hosting service allows departments and faculties to host their websites on a shared environment managed by UBC IT. Website administrators can build and self-manage their websites through the administrator control panel.

UBC faculties, departments, affiliated organizations, and research projects are eligible to use this service.

    x Installing TLS / SSL certificates on websites

Shibboleth

Overview

Shibboleth is an open source authentication and authorization technology. Applications integrated with Shibboleth can grant access to CWL account holders based on their identity information. It provides a web single sign-on across or within organization boundaries.

Overview

The Campus Wide Login (CWL) system provides access to many of the University's online systems, such as the Student Workday and Canvas.

This is the most important login account for Students, Staff, Faculty, Alumni, Guests, Extended Learners, and others accessing UBC resources.

Enterprise Active Directory

Overview

Enterprise Active Directory (EAD) is a centralized authentication and authorization mechanism for Microsoft client resources and University wide services. EAD Provides efficient control and administration of centrally managed assets like servers, computer and security groups. User accounts, password and related information are created and controlled by Identity and Access Management (IAM) via Campus Wide Login (CWL) and synchronized with EAD.

Virtual Firewall

Overview

UBC's virtual firewall service is essentially a logical firewall providing traditional, protective, filtering services to virtual networks. The service is delivered by dedicating slices of firewall resources to department virtual networks. Although the physical resource is shared, the firewall appears as a single (logical) resource dedicated to the department.
